Experimental Photoshoots: LensBaby and Niki-Marie

I don't quite know how to explain a LensBaby, you probably just want to noodle over to their website. Essentially it is a deliberately out-of-focus, tilt-shift lens built for creative messing, not accuracy.

The whole point of the wibbly-wobbly tilty-shiftiness is that only portions of your image are in focus. Using it outdoors isn't too bad, you can generally see what you are doing in the viewfinder. Using it indoors is much harder, the LensBaby has a fixed aperture, so the image looks very dark so it's almost a random process.

I've also had some fun shooting with very mixed light sources, tungsten, flourescent, LED and sunlight. Hence the rather odd colour spectrum. I've also done some post toning too.

About the Experimental Shoots Blog Posts

In this series I am focussing on different kinds of setups I've tried. Some are more successful than others. The idea is tweak your creative juices. I'm going to give a few tips as we go, but not full details - I want your experiments to be your own - you will have different ideas, equipment, setups and so on.

I am always interested in the results, and if you want to post them to me I would be very happy to put them on the blog.
