For our American readers you will be running why on earth we have set up an indoor pool in the studio - well it's cold here in the UK. And of course it does give some control over lighting.

If you want to use strobe lights in an outdoor pool then its easily done, you just wait until it gets dark and then you have complete lighting control.

When you model is being fairly still in water they will cool down quickly, so you need to be prepared to shoot quickly. Plan out the shoot in advance.

If your model has their head underwater they will not be able to hear you, so you must explain to the model exactly what you need them to do for each shot.

Be prepared to repeat shots, it is not easy for your model to control their body, how they float, how clothes and props move, how their hair moves.

This first shot is taken from the top of a ladder with quite an angle to the model. Within the frame the model is angled to one corner to fill the frame better.

For the second shot we've switched outfits. One of the pleasures of water photography is how materials become see-through.

For our final image we've switched to a much more fashion styled shot.
