Alasdair attended our Weekend Extravaganza where we covered Portraits, Nudes and Fashion. The course was run in conjunction with the RPS Digital Imaging Group. Graham Whistler and myself were the course tutors.
I really like the dutch angle on this one, because of the very rectilinear objects it really works well. It also makes Nikki Pixie fit really well into the frame and stops the image being windy. The varied angular lines running at many different angles across the frame make for a very dynamic image. Nice work – good thinking.

Rich recently had a one-on-one session and sent a few images for critique following the session. This post session review is included on all our workshops, both individual and group workshops and is a vital part of the learning process.
Looking closely you can see that there is a lack of definition on the chair and on the hair. The light to the left of the image could have been moved just to bring out those details a little more. The rim light on the legs is really nice, but not …

Rich is one of our regular studio users and we’re just about to start some one-on-one tuition. As you will see below Rich has reach a reasonable level of competency and has some interesting ideas and puts some effort into settings this up, so now we are talking about tuning things up for maximum effect.
A little under-exposed. I would suggest raising the overall exposure a little but reducing the lightness of the shadows to bring in a but more contrast.

Every workshop attendee can send in images for critique, this is a valuable part of the whole workshop process as the author has a chance to work on the images, do any post processing that is appropriate and look at the images in the context of the whole shoot.
The images selected do not need to be the “best” from the shoot, they may include failed images where the attendee wants to know why and how to improve.

Ed came in for a one-on-one mentoring session shooting pinups with Nikkia Sabblier – who runs her own fifties / retro clothing shop as well as modelling.
What I say about this image applies to a most of the images here, which is it could do with a bit more "pop".
There are a number of things you can do:
1) Look up Edge Contrast Enhancement on google – this is a technique for abusing the unsharp mask filter for giving extra "crispness" to an image
