<p>Adrian was an attendee at one of our recent two day workshops we run in conjunction with the Royal Photographic Society (RPS).&#160;&#160; After every <a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/tuition-2-day-workshop-fashion-portraits-and-nudes-%e2%80%93-nov-1011th-2011-2439" title="Academy Workshops">workshop</a> a really useful part of the process is to send in some completed images for a critique.&#160;&#160; These images are from Adrian.&#160;&#160; Not all images have to be brilliant, sometimes it is the ones that got away that the instruction is most useful for.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Firstly, for all the images I am a bit concerned about the colour cast on them all.&#160;&#160; Shooting using the flash white balance on your camera should result in slightly warm images, but these look very warm.&#160;&#160; By shooting with a consistent white balance it is the same colour correction throughout.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>On the other hand, if these look OK to you then you may have a colour calibration issue on your monitor. </p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/3030-Sharon-High-Key-Three-Quarter-Length.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Critique for Adrian 3030 Sharon High Key Three Quarter Length thumb" border="0" alt="3030 Sharon High Key Three Quarter Length thumb Critique for Adrian critique workshop RPS Critiques " src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/3030-Sharon-High-Key-Three-Quarter-Length_thumb.jpg" width="324" height="452" /></a></p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Lovely in every respect except for the kink on the waist and the slightly squashed boob.&#160;&#160; The general pose, crop and lighting are really nice for a high key look.&#160;&#160; I have a feeling you could lighten this up a lot more and it would look even better.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/3165-Dennis-with-Specs.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Critique for Adrian 3165 Dennis with Specs thumb" border="0" alt="3165 Dennis with Specs thumb Critique for Adrian critique workshop RPS Critiques " src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/3165-Dennis-with-Specs_thumb.jpg" width="296" height="452" /></a></p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Love the mad hair!!&#160; This image is really close, but there’s something just a little lacking in the expression, the looking over the specs is really good, along with the raised eyebrow, its so very close.&#160;&#160; </p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>On a small note the button on the shirt is very distracting</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Lighting is really nice.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/3170-Dennis-Conducting.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Critique for Adrian 3170 Dennis Conducting thumb" border="0" alt="3170 Dennis Conducting thumb Critique for Adrian critique workshop RPS Critiques " src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/3170-Dennis-Conducting_thumb.jpg" width="452" height="300" /></a></p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Terrific.&#160; Nothing more to add.&#160;&#160; Be interesting to see if this looked better with the eyes of camera, by having the direct gaze it looks more posed, whereas gazing off camera would have looked very natural.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/3176-Dennis.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Critique for Adrian 3176 Dennis thumb" border="0" alt="3176 Dennis thumb Critique for Adrian critique workshop RPS Critiques " src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/3176-Dennis_thumb.jpg" width="300" height="452" /></a></p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>I like this, a good tight crop, a terrific look on the face, lighting is great.&#160;&#160;&#160; It’s a little hard to tell with a small image, but it does look slightly soft.&#160;&#160; With a good face like this on a bloke you can afford to sharpen it even more than usual.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/3192-Harriet-High-Key-Landscape.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Critique for Adrian 3192 Harriet High Key Landscape thumb" border="0" alt="3192 Harriet High Key Landscape thumb Critique for Adrian critique workshop RPS Critiques " src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/3192-Harriet-High-Key-Landscape_thumb.jpg" width="452" height="300" /></a></p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Good use of reflector under the chin has left very lovely eyes, but it’s slightly too strong for my liking.&#160;&#160; I’m also slightly curious that the hair looks so dark.&#160;&#160; I would have expected more detail in the hair.&#160;&#160; The more I look at this the more troubled I am by the expression, I think the smile has just slipped.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>I like the off-centre crop, adds a lot of energy to the picture.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/3202-Harriet-High-Key-Smile.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Critique for Adrian 3202 Harriet High Key Smile thumb" border="0" alt="3202 Harriet High Key Smile thumb Critique for Adrian critique workshop RPS Critiques " src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/3202-Harriet-High-Key-Smile_thumb.jpg" width="300" height="452" /></a></p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Firstly I would crop this 10&#215;8. looks like too much space above the head.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>This tilt is troublesome, the general rule of thumb is to tilt into the picture, rather than out in this case.&#160;&#160; </p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>The tilt can add a lot to the image, but in the case the crop, the tightness on the right and the large space to left doesn’t quite add up.&#160;&#160; The camera position is slightly too low relative to the face for this to really work.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/3234-Harriet-High-Key-Bright-Eyes.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Critique for Adrian 3234 Harriet High Key Bright Eyes thumb" border="0" alt="3234 Harriet High Key Bright Eyes thumb Critique for Adrian critique workshop RPS Critiques " src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/3234-Harriet-High-Key-Bright-Eyes_thumb.jpg" width="300" height="452" /></a></p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>As above, crop 10&#215;8, that would lose the top of the hair and move the eyes higher in the frame for a much stronger image.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>I really like the catchlights, Harriett looks quite cheeky and happy at the same time.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>As above I’d like to see a little more detail / lightness in the hair.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/3275-Brodie-High-Key-Red-Dress.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Critique for Adrian 3275 Brodie High Key Red Dress thumb" border="0" alt="3275 Brodie High Key Red Dress thumb Critique for Adrian critique workshop RPS Critiques " src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/3275-Brodie-High-Key-Red-Dress_thumb.jpg" width="329" height="452" /></a></p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Good happy shot, but we’re missing a little in the eyes, so the face looks a bit dead.&#160;&#160; I like the strong dynamic pose, normally you want the hips facing to the side of the camera, but this dominating position does need a square on pose.&#160; </p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/3302-Brodie-High-Key-Eyelashes.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Critique for Adrian 3302 Brodie High Key Eyelashes thumb" border="0" alt="3302 Brodie High Key Eyelashes thumb Critique for Adrian critique workshop RPS Critiques " src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/3302-Brodie-High-Key-Eyelashes_thumb.jpg" width="452" height="300" /></a></p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Very nice happy, cheeky, sexy all at one.&#160;&#160; Again I really like your off-centre crop, as in your earlier shot it really adds to the image.&#160;&#160; Nothing wrong with a good chunk of negative space at all.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/3393-Brodie-Low-Key-Sultry.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Critique for Adrian 3393 Brodie Low Key Sultry thumb" border="0" alt="3393 Brodie Low Key Sultry thumb Critique for Adrian critique workshop RPS Critiques " src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/3393-Brodie-Low-Key-Sultry_thumb.jpg" width="302" height="452" /></a></p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Nice low-key image, it could maybe have done with a little light on Brodie&#8217;s shoulder and hair on the right hand side of the image.&#160;&#160; Under the circumstances I know why it’s not there, but if you had more time on the shoot either moving the hair light or using a second rim light would make a big difference.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>The face is slightly too left in the frame for me, I think it should be a little more central.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/3398-Brodie-Low-Key-Smiling.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Critique for Adrian 3398 Brodie Low Key Smiling thumb" border="0" alt="3398 Brodie Low Key Smiling thumb Critique for Adrian critique workshop RPS Critiques " src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/3398-Brodie-Low-Key-Smiling_thumb.jpg" width="452" height="300" /></a></p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Where as this one has too much negative space on the right, try a horizontal 10&#215;8 crop.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Otherwise again this is a really good low-key image.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/3428-Brodie-Against-the-Wall.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Critique for Adrian 3428 Brodie Against the Wall thumb" border="0" alt="3428 Brodie Against the Wall thumb Critique for Adrian critique workshop RPS Critiques " src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/3428-Brodie-Against-the-Wall_thumb.jpg" width="452" height="302" /></a></p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Nice use of depth of field, the soft arm on the right and soft brick work on the left work really well.&#160;&#160; The lights in the eyes are well seen and the way the light and shadow falls on the right side of the image is very nice too.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>The crop is spot on, focuses on the face, uses the arm to frame and the fingers to add interest in the bottom left corner.&#160;&#160; Be warned though a camera club judge may be picky about the crop.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>OVERALL:</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Would be nice to see some of these as monochromes, I think some of them would be very good black and white, just watch the contrast when you convert, you may want to adjust the tonal range differently for mono.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Good, strong set of images, very well captured and framed.&#160;&#160; If these crops are straight out of the camera then you should congratulate yourself.&#160;&#160; Even if they are cropped in post production your sense of composition is very strong and to be commended.</p>

&#160;
This is David’s review.
&#160;
&#160;

&#160;
Nicely handled and largely right, but the devil is all in the details here.&#160;&#160; Firstly it looks like it was shot to wide, there is exaggeration around the hips and hands to me.

<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Nicely handled and largely right, but the devil is all in the details here.&#160;&#160; Firstly it looks like it was shot to wide, there is exaggeration around the hips and hands to me.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Secondly, the image is shot with the camera too high – that coupled with being too wide means that there is a lot of rather unpleasant floor in the shot.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Next the hands are not as good as they could be, Brodie’s right hand is to hard with the flat back to camera and the left hand just has some odd finger ends poking out above the leg.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>The eyes are away from camera, giving the “mad eye” look, eyes need to follow the nose, or look to camera, but never away.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>The crease in Brodie’s armpit is a bit harsh</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>The glare on the leg of the chaise is distracting, as is the toe poking out on the bottom right.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/DJT0017-crop_web.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Critique for David DJT0017 crop web thumb" border="0" alt="DJT0017 crop web thumb Critique for David critique workshop RPS Critiques " src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/DJT0017-crop_web_thumb.jpg" width="452" height="452" /></a></p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>The hands are better, but apart from that everything about the first image applies to this one.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/DJT0041-crop2_web.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Critique for David DJT0041 crop2 web thumb" border="0" alt="DJT0041 crop2 web thumb Critique for David critique workshop RPS Critiques " src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/DJT0041-crop2_web_thumb.jpg" width="452" height="303" /></a></p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>This is very nice, like the pose, shadows, positioning the vignette effect, smashing shot.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>I have a feeling it would be stronger if the left edge was cropped out, that would make the image more dynamic and less “windy”</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/DJT0048-crop_web.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Critique for David DJT0048 crop web thumb" border="0" alt="DJT0048 crop web thumb Critique for David critique workshop RPS Critiques " src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/DJT0048-crop_web_thumb.jpg" width="452" height="303" /></a></p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Another smashing shot, same comments as above.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/DJT0082-crop_web.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Critique for David DJT0082 crop web thumb" border="0" alt="DJT0082 crop web thumb Critique for David critique workshop RPS Critiques " src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/DJT0082-crop_web_thumb.jpg" width="303" height="452" /></a></p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Nice portrait, again this is a little wide, but I don’t mind that here because it gives a nice exaggeration of Dennis’ hand.&#160;&#160; Crop, pose, light are all very good.&#160;&#160; </p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>This is all in all a good image, my big trouble is that the dark low-key style doesn’t quite fit with the sunny hat <img src='http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt="icon smile Critique for David critique workshop RPS Critiques " class='wp-smiley' title="Critique for David icon smile" /> </p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/DJT0107-crop_web.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Critique for David DJT0107 crop web thumb" border="0" alt="DJT0107 crop web thumb Critique for David critique workshop RPS Critiques " src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/DJT0107-crop_web_thumb.jpg" width="302" height="452" /></a></p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Still too wide.&#160;&#160;&#160; Very good pose and expression, shows of Harriet’s legs perfectly and is a really good fun shot.&#160;&#160; I would look at brightening the whole image and making sure the back wall is completely white.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/DJT0110-crop_web.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Critique for David DJT0110 crop web thumb" border="0" alt="DJT0110 crop web thumb Critique for David critique workshop RPS Critiques " src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/DJT0110-crop_web_thumb.jpg" width="452" height="302" /></a></p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Very close, but again details let you down.&#160; The baton is slightly too low, needed to be pointing more vertically and the face is not quite a precise profile, that hint of the far eye is distracting.&#160;&#160; Otherwise very good.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/DJT0124-crop_web.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Critique for David DJT0124 crop web thumb" border="0" alt="DJT0124 crop web thumb Critique for David critique workshop RPS Critiques " src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/DJT0124-crop_web_thumb.jpg" width="302" height="452" /></a></p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Very good, everything works here, just tweak up the back wall to white.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/DJT0164-crop-2_web.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Critique for David DJT0164 crop 2 web thumb" border="0" alt="DJT0164 crop 2 web thumb Critique for David critique workshop RPS Critiques " src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/DJT0164-crop-2_web_thumb.jpg" width="302" height="452" /></a></p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>The whole image is a little under-exposed.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>The trouble with these shots is that pretty much everything has come together perfectly except the top has fallen slightly oddly giving a peculiar swollen hip.&#160;&#160; You may be able to Photoshop this.&#160;&#160;&#160; There are lots of things to be picky about if this was a dance shot, but as a fun, lifestyle shot it’s as it should be.&#160; </p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>OVERALL:</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Nice set, when the details come right the images are very good.&#160;&#160; The overall capture quality is good, but you need a bit of focus on the details.&#160;&#160; I know it’s not straight-forward at the best of times and especially difficult in the group settings, but more attention to detail would have made this a very strong set.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>I’m a little concerned about the backgrounds not being a crisp white, not sure whether that is a capture problem or a post processing problem, if I had to guess I would say they are under-exposed, but it is possible the lighting ratio between the subject and background wasn’t correct.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>It’s only the wall part that should be white, the floor needs a hint of tone, otherwise the subject will just be floating in the middle of nothing.</p>

Janet attended our recent two day workshop in conjunction with the RPS.&#160;&#160; After every workshop attendees can have their images critiqued, which is a valuable part of the learning process of the workshops.
&#160;

&#160;
There’s a really strong orange cast in the floor which I suspect is due to not having the camera settings correct, probably the white balance on the wrong setting.
&#160;
Love the shape, pose, crop, flow of the cloth – this is very good.&#160;&#160; Try a tighter crop to the right, this may add strength to the image.

<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Again very good, I think I would crop into the cloth on the floor and/or build it up in Photoshop, it just sort of peters out.&#160;&#160;&#160; The shapes and crop are good.&#160;&#160; I’m not so happy about the cloth over the hand top left corner, the hand would have been better being uncovered.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/Image3.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Critique for Janet Image3 thumb" border="0" alt="Image3 thumb Critique for Janet critique workshop RPS Critiques " src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/Image3_thumb.jpg" width="452" height="368" /></a></p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>What happened to her toes!!!&#160;&#160; This is where you can’t crop.&#160;&#160; If you want to keep the image (and the rest is good) then crop mid-calf and lose a lot off the top and left.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/Image4.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Critique for Janet Image4 thumb" border="0" alt="Image4 thumb Critique for Janet critique workshop RPS Critiques " src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/Image4_thumb.jpg" width="452" height="339" /></a></p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Nice delicate image, makes the most of Sharon’s legs and hair.&#160; A bit windy top and left, crop it in a little bit.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>The following shots of Brodie all suffer from the orange cast and being under-exposed.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/Image5.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Critique for Janet Image5 thumb" border="0" alt="Image5 thumb Critique for Janet critique workshop RPS Critiques " src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/Image5_thumb.jpg" width="418" height="452" /></a></p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Correctly cropped to square to be a CD cover, though the text went wrong ?!</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>The pose sadly gives a terrific shot of Brodie’s armpit, otherwise I like it.&#160; </p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>If I was doing this under commission (instead of in 30 seconds) then I’d do this.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>1) Light Brodie from the right of image, but the background from the left of image so it is darker in front of her face, but lighter behind the hair.</p>
<p>2) Added a hair light to make the most of the hair.</p>
<p>3) Experimented with the post to avoid that armpit, but also simplify the image</p>
<p>4) Be careful about crossing points, for example the microphone just crosses into the arm.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/Image6.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Critique for Janet Image6 thumb" border="0" alt="Image6 thumb Critique for Janet critique workshop RPS Critiques " src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/Image6_thumb.jpg" width="452" height="441" /></a></p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>This is much stronger if Brodie were a singer this would make a better CD cover.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Could do with just a fraction more light on the dark side of the face and the palm to camera is a shame.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/Image7.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Critique for Janet Image7 thumb" border="0" alt="Image7 thumb Critique for Janet critique workshop RPS Critiques " src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/Image7_thumb.jpg" width="452" height="367" /></a></p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>The eyes are way over brightened – she looks like she is lit up from inside.&#160; </p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>The background should be white (as below) and the skin tones are too dark – adjust the whole image to match the tones in the next image and it would be better.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/Image8.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Critique for Janet Image8 thumb" border="0" alt="Image8 thumb Critique for Janet critique workshop RPS Critiques " src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/Image8_thumb.jpg" width="329" height="452" /></a></p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Lovely, moody, sultry, attitude, expression, emotion, atmosphere.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>You might get ticked off for cropping the edge of the arm, though that doesn’t bother me here.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>I like this image.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>OVERALL </p>
<p>Colour casts and exposure problems mar this set.&#160;&#160;&#160; The girls should have a warm tone, but these are positively orange.&#160;&#160; If it is done in post then it’s too much.&#160;&#160;&#160; They are all under-exposed a little or a lot.&#160;&#160; Which again may be a result of post processing.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>The posing, shapes, crops are good and strong.</p>

<p>&#160;</p>
<p>I like this shot, very dynamic, strong powerful image.&#160; I like the curl of hair across the shoulder which cuts down the big fleshy space that would have been there.&#160;&#160; I think the ear is a bit bright and catchlights in the eyes are really needed to bring Harriett alive.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/20111118_1334.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Critique for Dave 20111118 1334 thumb" border="0" alt="20111118 1334 thumb Critique for Dave critique workshop RPS Critiques " src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/20111118_1334_thumb.jpg" width="302" height="452" /></a></p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Terrific shape in the post, I hope that was more you than Harriett.&#160;&#160; It works because of all the contrasting angles and line, although they are all different – adding interest to the image – they still complimentary to each other, rather than fighting against each other.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Nice tight crop, the shoes look great, I like the hand shapes, though the hand bottom left is just acceptable, </p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/20111118_1340.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Critique for Dave 20111118 1340 thumb" border="0" alt="20111118 1340 thumb Critique for Dave critique workshop RPS Critiques " src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/20111118_1340_thumb.jpg" width="302" height="452" /></a></p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>This is so close, but the tilt doesn’t work for me.&#160;&#160; I think as a close up crop on the face with the eyes horizontal would be much stronger.&#160;&#160; Lovely light in the eyes.&#160;&#160; That said, if the light had been another 12 inches higher – still keeping the catchlight, it would have given better structure to Harriet&#8217;s face and stopped it looking a bit chubby.</p>

<p>&#160;</p>
<p>My first comment which I’m not going to repeat for all images is that they all look slightly dark to me.&#160; This is probably due to an uncalibrated monitor.&#160;&#160; Most monitors are by default set for being over bright since that gives “punch” to the display, but leads to a misleading view of images.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/RPS_FPA_Dennis1_Nov2011.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Critique for Arthur RPS FPA Dennis1 Nov2011 thumb" border="0" alt="RPS FPA Dennis1 Nov2011 thumb Critique for Arthur critique workshop denis Critiques brodie " src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/RPS_FPA_Dennis1_Nov2011_thumb.jpg" width="312" height="452" /></a></p>
<p>Cracking image, lovely perfect of Denis.&#160; The light across the face is terrific, the highlights on his hair.&#160; Only one minor criticism is that it looks like his finger has slightly pushed his cheek out of shape.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/RPS_FPA_Dennis2_Nov2011.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Critique for Arthur RPS FPA Dennis2 Nov2011 thumb" border="0" alt="RPS FPA Dennis2 Nov2011 thumb Critique for Arthur critique workshop denis Critiques brodie " src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/RPS_FPA_Dennis2_Nov2011_thumb.jpg" width="316" height="452" /></a></p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>He does look grumpy !!&#160;&#160; Everything is fine except he’s missing a catchlight in the eyes which makes him look a little dead.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/RPS_FPA_Dennis3_Nov2011.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Critique for Arthur RPS FPA Dennis3 Nov2011 thumb" border="0" alt="RPS FPA Dennis3 Nov2011 thumb Critique for Arthur critique workshop denis Critiques brodie " src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/RPS_FPA_Dennis3_Nov2011_thumb.jpg" width="452" height="332" /></a></p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Again perfect shot, love the baton, getting the placement of all the elements right in this type of image is tricky but this is very well done.&#160;&#160; You could possible lose a little off the left edge to give a stronger composition and crop.&#160;&#160; Again sadly it looks like there is no catchlight which would help a lot for this image.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/RPS_FPA_HKey1_Nov2011.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Critique for Arthur RPS FPA HKey1 Nov2011 thumb" border="0" alt="RPS FPA HKey1 Nov2011 thumb Critique for Arthur critique workshop denis Critiques brodie " src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/RPS_FPA_HKey1_Nov2011_thumb.jpg" width="302" height="452" /></a></p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Not sure what’s happened here, the background should be bright white and the hair is quite “muddy”, which I think is a post-processing problem.&#160; The expression is interesting, the palm could have done to be turned just slightly more into the face.&#160;&#160; I think this can be cropped much tighter for a stronger image.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/RPS_FPA_HKey2_Nov2011.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Critique for Arthur RPS FPA HKey2 Nov2011 thumb" border="0" alt="RPS FPA HKey2 Nov2011 thumb Critique for Arthur critique workshop denis Critiques brodie " src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/RPS_FPA_HKey2_Nov2011_thumb.jpg" width="329" height="452" /></a></p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Almost there but somehow the face and the pose don’t gel for me.&#160;&#160; The crop is too tight (a mistake I make a lot too), the image needs a bit more space on the right.&#160;&#160; The background should be white.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/RPS_FPA_HKey3_Nov2011.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Critique for Arthur RPS FPA HKey3 Nov2011 thumb" border="0" alt="RPS FPA HKey3 Nov2011 thumb Critique for Arthur critique workshop denis Critiques brodie " src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/RPS_FPA_HKey3_Nov2011_thumb.jpg" width="302" height="452" /></a></p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>This is good fun, I like the expression in particular, Brodie looks very happy and natural.&#160;&#160;&#160; Under normal circumstances I would complain about the bunched knees, but I think they are fine here.&#160;&#160; The stool is a problem because it gives a very complicated base to the image.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/RPS_FPA_LKey1_Nov2011.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Critique for Arthur RPS FPA LKey1 Nov2011 thumb" border="0" alt="RPS FPA LKey1 Nov2011 thumb Critique for Arthur critique workshop denis Critiques brodie " src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/RPS_FPA_LKey1_Nov2011_thumb.jpg" width="333" height="452" /></a></p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Again, very close, but the crop really lets it down.&#160;&#160; There’s too much head room and by losing the fingers, and the left top corner everything looks cut off.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/RPS_FPA_LKey2_Nov2011.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Critique for Arthur RPS FPA LKey2 Nov2011 thumb" border="0" alt="RPS FPA LKey2 Nov2011 thumb Critique for Arthur critique workshop denis Critiques brodie " src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/RPS_FPA_LKey2_Nov2011_thumb.jpg" width="452" height="312" /></a></p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Good fun, nice pose shape but it’s let down by the hands, the top hand has too much palm showing and the bottom hand is too clenched.&#160;&#160; The expression is close, but I would say you were probably a fraction of a second off getting something terrific.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/RPS_FPA_LKey3_Nov2011.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Critique for Arthur RPS FPA LKey3 Nov2011 thumb" border="0" alt="RPS FPA LKey3 Nov2011 thumb Critique for Arthur critique workshop denis Critiques brodie " src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/RPS_FPA_LKey3_Nov2011_thumb.jpg" width="452" height="354" /></a></p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Lovely.&#160;&#160; I suspect this would make a great black and white.&#160;&#160; You could also try cooling the image just a little to bring out emotion in the image</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/RPS_FPA_Sharon1_Nov2011.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Critique for Arthur RPS FPA Sharon1 Nov2011 thumb" border="0" alt="RPS FPA Sharon1 Nov2011 thumb Critique for Arthur critique workshop denis Critiques brodie " src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/RPS_FPA_Sharon1_Nov2011_thumb.jpg" width="302" height="452" /></a></p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Nice mono <a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/fine-art-nudes-trailer-440" title="Fine Art Photography">nude</a> study.&#160;&#160; I like that the head is cropped out which lets us concentrate on the figure and form.&#160; Be interesting to see how either adding or reducing contrast on this image would change it.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/RPS_FPA_Sharon2_Nov2011.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Critique for Arthur RPS FPA Sharon2 Nov2011 thumb" border="0" alt="RPS FPA Sharon2 Nov2011 thumb Critique for Arthur critique workshop denis Critiques brodie " src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/RPS_FPA_Sharon2_Nov2011_thumb.jpg" width="349" height="452" /></a></p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Sharon is wonky, she needs straightening up a little.&#160; This is a nice gentle pose and crop, I would look at reducing the contrast and or softening it as well.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/RPS_FPA_Sharon3_Nov2011.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Critique for Arthur RPS FPA Sharon3 Nov2011 thumb" border="0" alt="RPS FPA Sharon3 Nov2011 thumb Critique for Arthur critique workshop denis Critiques brodie " src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/RPS_FPA_Sharon3_Nov2011_thumb.jpg" width="308" height="452" /></a></p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>I like this shapes here, the hips look a little bulky, a slight turn away would help.&#160; Again it is very gentle so have a play with contrast and softness.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Overall a good set, I particularly like the shots of Denis.</p>

Great shot, could do with a slightly tighter crop but other than that I think this is great.

Really nice profile shot, really like the way the artists work can be see and his gaze is as though he is looking ...

<p><a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/111117Denis_0039.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Workshop Critique for Denis 111117Denis 0039 thumb" border="0" alt="111117Denis 0039 thumb Workshop Critique for Denis critique workshop RPS nude photography Critiques " src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/111117Denis_0039_thumb.jpg" width="302" height="452" /></a></p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Really nice profile shot, really like the way the artists work can be see and his gaze is as though he is looking out at the scene he is painting.&#160;&#160; Very good.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Crop needs a little more room at the bottom and little less at the top </p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/111117Sharon_0001.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Workshop Critique for Denis 111117Sharon 0001 thumb" border="0" alt="111117Sharon 0001 thumb Workshop Critique for Denis critique workshop RPS nude photography Critiques " src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/111117Sharon_0001_thumb.jpg" width="250" height="452" /></a></p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>We’ve got an exposure problem here, this is too dark, though it should be able to bring it up to the right levels.&#160;&#160; Remember this set was shot to be very high key – the background should be completely white and Sharon’s skin tones need bringing up to normal.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>I’m a bothered about the crop here.&#160;&#160; I feel Sharon should be more central or even to the right of the image.&#160;&#160; There is also too much space top and bottom.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>When you look at the pose, sadly the twist with the arms up has led to the boobs looking very different sizes, something to watch out for.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/111117Sharon_0023.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Workshop Critique for Denis 111117Sharon 0023 thumb" border="0" alt="111117Sharon 0023 thumb Workshop Critique for Denis critique workshop RPS nude photography Critiques " src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/111117Sharon_0023_thumb.jpg" width="452" height="154" /></a></p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>See comments regards exposure above</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Like the crop on this, the letterbox format makes for a good strong image.&#160;&#160;&#160; I think a camera club judge would complain about the pose in the legs but I like this, it makes for a very interesting shape.&#160;&#160; I suspect there is a stronger, more interesting image somewhere in a crop just around the legs.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/111117Sharon_0035.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Workshop Critique for Denis 111117Sharon 0035 thumb" border="0" alt="111117Sharon 0035 thumb Workshop Critique for Denis critique workshop RPS nude photography Critiques " src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/111117Sharon_0035_thumb.jpg" width="452" height="359" /></a></p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Exposure as above</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Like this, the whole flow of the cloth has come out perfectly, very dynamic, plus the strong gaze from the model makes this very strong.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/111118BrodieAM_0007.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Workshop Critique for Denis 111118BrodieAM 0007 thumb" border="0" alt="111118BrodieAM 0007 thumb Workshop Critique for Denis critique workshop RPS nude photography Critiques " src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/111118BrodieAM_0007_thumb.jpg" width="452" height="302" /></a></p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Still got exposure problems, although the background is white, Brodie is still too dark.,</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Fun show, love the expression on the face, love the negative space in the image.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Being picky, because I know this was a “grab the look on the face while it was there” shot, if the hands had been symmetrical it would have been stronger still.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/111118BrodieAM_0036.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Workshop Critique for Denis 111118BrodieAM 0036 thumb" border="0" alt="111118BrodieAM 0036 thumb Workshop Critique for Denis critique workshop RPS nude photography Critiques " src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/111118BrodieAM_0036_thumb.jpg" width="274" height="452" /></a></p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Exposure again.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Great image.&#160;&#160; I would seriously consider losing everything below the hands.&#160; There’s not much happening there and it’s reducing the impact.&#160;&#160; There might be an even better crop of just the hair and face.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/111118Harriet_0003b.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Workshop Critique for Denis 111118Harriet 0003b thumb" border="0" alt="111118Harriet 0003b thumb Workshop Critique for Denis critique workshop RPS nude photography Critiques " src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/111118Harriet_0003b_thumb.jpg" width="452" height="267" /></a></p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Great idea but the crop needs adjusting.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Firstly the eyes must be absolutely centred horizontally in the frame, same amount of space to left and right of the eyes.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Secondly the eyes either need to be higher in the frame – think rule of thirds – or the top needs a serious crop to remove all that blank forehead.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>What I really like is the whole suggestion of a smile, that is only seen in the eyes without the mouth at all.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/111118Harriet_0015.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Workshop Critique for Denis 111118Harriet 0015 thumb" border="0" alt="111118Harriet 0015 thumb Workshop Critique for Denis critique workshop RPS nude photography Critiques " src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/111118Harriet_0015_thumb.jpg" width="308" height="452" /></a></p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Exposure again.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>I like what you’ve tried to achieve, but I think the camera angle lets it down.&#160;&#160; Drop the camera right down to the floor – then the shoes would appear much stronger, the legs longer and would give a more dramatic position.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>The pose is pretty much spot on.&#160;&#160; This is one of those shots that is worth spending 5-10 minutes on if you want to get it right, shifts in the lighting – especially on the shoes – could make a huge difference.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>You also need to clean up the floor.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/111118HarrietPM_0017.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Workshop Critique for Denis 111118HarrietPM 0017 thumb" border="0" alt="111118HarrietPM 0017 thumb Workshop Critique for Denis critique workshop RPS nude photography Critiques " src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/111118HarrietPM_0017_thumb.jpg" width="302" height="452" /></a></p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Lovely, straightforward portrait.&#160;&#160; Light and exposure just right.&#160; Shot into the narrow side of the lighting which gives wonderful structure to the face, the gaze is perfect, the expression is delightfully ambiguous which lets the viewer wonder about what’s happening inside her head.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Tweaks to this type of image would include moving the light source further to your left (<a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/category/photography-modelling" title="Modelling">models</a> right) and slightly higher.&#160;&#160; That wouldn’t necessarily improve this image, but would give a very different look.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>OVERALL: </p>
<p>Need to check this exposure thing – firstly your monitor may be too bright, but even then I think it should be clear that these look muddy.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Also, would be interested in seeing some of these monochrome too.</p>

This is Ian’s submission for his post-workshop critique.&#160; We offer this to all attendees as it really adds value to the workshops to have the final results thoroughly analysed.

Perfect.&#160;&#160; Loads of great definition, detail, highlights, shadows, well held tones.&#160; I even like the square crop.

Again lovely.&#160;&#160; It is slightly murky, maybe a bit of added lightness and contrast?

Can’t tell at this size, but I am a bit concerned about the eyes, it looks like one is closed and the other is open.&#160; I know she’s looking down…

<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Can’t tell at this size, but I am a bit concerned about the eyes, it looks like one is closed and the other is open.&#160; I know she’s looking down…</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>On any picture if the eyes are not right the rest of the picture doesn’t matter.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/Denis.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Workshop Critique for Ian Denis thumb" border="0" alt="Denis thumb Workshop Critique for Ian critique workshop RPS nude photography Critiques " src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/Denis_thumb.jpg" width="367" height="452" /></a></p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Normally you would get a ticking off from me for the hand squashing the face up – but it works well.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>The flesh tones are very dark though, I would be pretty sure they can be brought up with losing the essence of the image.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/Harriett.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Workshop Critique for Ian Harriett thumb" border="0" alt="Harriett thumb Workshop Critique for Ian critique workshop RPS nude photography Critiques " src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/Harriett_thumb.jpg" width="361" height="452" /></a></p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Looks a bit dark and a bit yellow.&#160;&#160; That should tweak up fine and will make a lovely portrait.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/Harriett-_2.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Workshop Critique for Ian Harriett 2 thumb" border="0" alt="Harriett 2 thumb Workshop Critique for Ian critique workshop RPS nude photography Critiques " src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/Harriett-_2_thumb.jpg" width="417" height="452" /></a></p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Like the angle and direction here.&#160; Fundamentally it’s too dark, though I’m sure it&#8217;s fixable.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>This was probably shot as things were happening, rather than being planned.&#160; Pre-planned version of this would have been better with more contrasty lighting, more careful light placement, cutting down the white at the base (or swapping for a different background) </p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/Lifting-the-veil.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Workshop Critique for Ian Lifting the veil thumb" border="0" alt="Lifting the veil thumb Workshop Critique for Ian critique workshop RPS nude photography Critiques " src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/Lifting-the-veil_thumb.jpg" width="391" height="452" /></a></p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Look at the eyes, she looks cross-eyed.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>It is too dark, and lacking a bit in punch.&#160;&#160; I would be tempted to go the other way, bring the lightness up and the softness, reduce the contrast.&#160;&#160; There might be a really nice pastel image in there.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>With this kind of pose the legs always look difficult, try and landscape crop across the face and hands.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/Sharon-athletic-.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Workshop Critique for Ian Sharon athletic thumb" border="0" alt="Sharon athletic thumb Workshop Critique for Ian critique workshop RPS nude photography Critiques " src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/Sharon-athletic-_thumb.jpg" width="452" height="328" /></a></p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Is this a wide angle here !!!!!&#160;&#160; Actually I don’t object since it has an artistic purpose.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>I understand where you are going with this treatment, but it also introduces some problems, look at the feet and particular the fingers – they are almost black.&#160;&#160;&#160; It’s also made the very faint tan lines on Sharon&#8217;s hips much stronger.&#160;&#160; </p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>The elbows also look particularly weird, like the arms are bent the wrong way.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>This is one of those shoots were a bit of study, trying to capture the “right” version of this shot would really pay off.&#160;&#160; There is a really good idea there, the distortion, the pose, the light, but it warrants more exploration and care than the workshop environment allows.&#160;&#160; Just be sure that you are not shooting too quickly and paying attention to all that you see before you start firing.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>OVERALL:</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>A good set, good variety and I like the ideas you are presenting.&#160;&#160;&#160; </p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>I’m a bit concerned about the relative darkness in all the images, you may want to turn the brightness of your monitor down so you bring up the levels just a bit lighter.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Your control of tone in the monochromes is very good.</p>

This is a post workshop critique from our RPS workshop in November.
&#160;
&#160;

&#160;
This is all a bit murky, you need to have an adjust of exposure and contrast, maybe a bit of dodging and burning to bring this to life.&#160;&#160; It is overall a little dark and a little lacking in contrast and punch.
&#160;
Pose and all that is good, but the black cloth down the centre is too wide relative to the Sharon.&#160;&#160; You could have had Sharon posed slightly less head on to camera to help.

&#160;
Lighting comments as above.

<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Lighting comments as above.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>The big problem here is the red cloth which leaves a very unstructured block of red where all shape and poise is lost.&#160; Everything in the top half is great, a crop just below the hands would probably look good.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>You may be able to adjust the lightness of the lower half to bring more shape into the red cloth.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/Adrian_Butt-3.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Post Workshop Critique&ndash;Adrian Adrian Butt 3 thumb" border="0" alt="Adrian Butt 3 thumb Post Workshop Critique&ndash;Adrian critique workshop RPS nude photography Critiques " src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/Adrian_Butt-3_thumb.jpg" width="302" height="452" /></a></p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Nice image, maybe experiment with a little cool toning, see if a chillier image fits with the emotion in the <a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/category/photography-modelling" title="Modelling">models</a> pose and expression.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/Adrian_Butt-4.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Post Workshop Critique&ndash;Adrian Adrian Butt 4 thumb" border="0" alt="Adrian Butt 4 thumb Post Workshop Critique&ndash;Adrian critique workshop RPS nude photography Critiques " src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/Adrian_Butt-4_thumb.jpg" width="302" height="452" /></a></p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Spot on.&#160;&#160; There is probably a much better image by cropping much tighter on the face and hands.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/Adrian_Butt-5.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Post Workshop Critique&ndash;Adrian Adrian Butt 5 thumb" border="0" alt="Adrian Butt 5 thumb Post Workshop Critique&ndash;Adrian critique workshop RPS nude photography Critiques " src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/Adrian_Butt-5_thumb.jpg" width="285" height="452" /></a></p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Nice and happy portrait.&#160; Lovely.&#160;&#160; Just to be picky, watch the high lights on the buttons, they do draw the eye.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/Adrian_Butt-6.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Post Workshop Critique&ndash;Adrian Adrian Butt 6 thumb" border="0" alt="Adrian Butt 6 thumb Post Workshop Critique&ndash;Adrian critique workshop RPS nude photography Critiques " src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/Adrian_Butt-6_thumb.jpg" width="371" height="452" /></a></p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Normally I’d be trying to avoid the knee.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Again a really good workman like shot, would be stronger if it had been slightly re-composed to allow a tighter crop with all the elements closer together.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/Adrian_Butt-7.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Post Workshop Critique&ndash;Adrian Adrian Butt 7 thumb" border="0" alt="Adrian Butt 7 thumb Post Workshop Critique&ndash;Adrian critique workshop RPS nude photography Critiques " src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/Adrian_Butt-7_thumb.jpg" width="354" height="452" /></a></p>
<p>To me this is the wrong moment, the eyes look like they are just about to blink, which ruins it for me.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>While it is competently caught, the details really let it down.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>The wrinkles on the hand, the bad armpit, the mouth shape, the eyes, the hair fall, the bits of muck on the chaise.&#160;&#160; </p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/Adrian_Butt-8.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Post Workshop Critique&ndash;Adrian Adrian Butt 8 thumb" border="0" alt="Adrian Butt 8 thumb Post Workshop Critique&ndash;Adrian critique workshop RPS nude photography Critiques " src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/Adrian_Butt-8_thumb.jpg" width="302" height="452" /></a></p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Much better than the previous shot, but the hands are very bunched and could have been more elegant, the eyes are looking too far away.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Both these shots are sort of close, but the details, especially in checking the models pose, could be improved quite a bit.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/Adrian_Butt-9.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Post Workshop Critique&ndash;Adrian Adrian Butt 9 thumb" border="0" alt="Adrian Butt 9 thumb Post Workshop Critique&ndash;Adrian critique workshop RPS nude photography Critiques " src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/Adrian_Butt-9_thumb.jpg" width="302" height="452" /></a></p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Whereas for me it all comes together in this shot.&#160;&#160; Really strong shot of a really strong woman.&#160;&#160; </p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Catchlights in the eyes would be good, crop it tighter would make it stronger.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/Adrian_Butt-10.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Post Workshop Critique&ndash;Adrian Adrian Butt 10 thumb" border="0" alt="Adrian Butt 10 thumb Post Workshop Critique&ndash;Adrian critique workshop RPS nude photography Critiques " src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/Adrian_Butt-10_thumb.jpg" width="452" height="302" /></a></p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Again this has the same problems, I just wonder if you are shooting while they or you are talking??&#160; </p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Eyes are part closed, lips look tense, crinkles in both armpits, the hand is wrinkly, the crop on the elbow doesn’t work and something has happened to the line of the dress both around the bust and the waist.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Again, its very close, but the details kill it.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/Adrian_Butt-11.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Post Workshop Critique&ndash;Adrian Adrian Butt 11 thumb" border="0" alt="Adrian Butt 11 thumb Post Workshop Critique&ndash;Adrian critique workshop RPS nude photography Critiques " src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/Adrian_Butt-11_thumb.jpg" width="302" height="452" /></a></p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Smashing.&#160;&#160; Could do to be fraction lighter and it’s possibly a bit yellow.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>A quick bit of post production and this will really sing out.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/Adrian_Butt-12.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Post Workshop Critique&ndash;Adrian Adrian Butt 12 thumb" border="0" alt="Adrian Butt 12 thumb Post Workshop Critique&ndash;Adrian critique workshop RPS nude photography Critiques " src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/Adrian_Butt-12_thumb.jpg" width="302" height="452" /></a></p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Same as above, really good shot.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>OVERALL:</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>You’ve got some good captures, but the devil is in the detail.&#160;&#160; You want to go over all the images in the shoot looking for the kinds of details that I’ve been pointing out and hopefully you’ll take them in so they become second nature to spot and remove.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>I am aware that this is much harder in a workshop setting than if you had time to properly check things over, but I would say that they are symptoms of being in too much of a hurry to shoot,</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>I would also like you to do some monochrome work on these, Dennis is an obvious mono subject, but I think this applies to a number of the images here.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Lastly, try looking at tighter crops on your images, not only can the possibly cut out the bad stuff <img src='http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt="icon smile Post Workshop Critique&ndash;Adrian critique workshop RPS nude photography Critiques " class='wp-smiley' title="Post Workshop Critique&ndash;Adrian icon smile" /> but also give you stronger images.</p>

&#160;
Spot on, only objection is there should be a little catchlight in the eyes, he looks a little dead.&#160;&#160; You could crop this to 8&#215;10 portrait format for a stronger image.
&#160;

&#160;
Brilliant.&#160;&#160;&#160; Nothing I would change about this at all.
&#160;
On a hi-res image just have a check that there are no strong highlight spots in the top right hand corner.
&#160;
&#160;

&#160;
Still very strong, though ...

<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Still very strong, though I’m not so convinced about the crop here.&#160;&#160; Dennis is sitting a little low in the frame so he’s looking a bit truncated – I can see the problem – you wanted to get the whole of the baton in – difficult one.&#160;&#160; Probably you can’t get a decent crop from this pose because everything is too far apart.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/FPA_Critique_AZ_5DA08148.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Post Workshop critique for Andrzej FPA Critique AZ 5DA08148 thumb" border="0" alt="FPA Critique AZ 5DA08148 thumb Post Workshop critique for Andrzej critique workshop RPS nude photography Critiques " src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/FPA_Critique_AZ_5DA08148_thumb.jpg" width="452" height="302" /></a></p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>It’s quite good, my first impression was very positive, but on a second look I think the big problem is the flatness of the light across the back, a little rotation of the torso in the light would have brought out much more detail in the body structure.&#160;&#160; </p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Couple of details, not sure about the wrinkly elbows and the odd bulge on the left hand side by the elbow. </p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Overall the image makes poor old Sharon look very wide !!&#160;&#160; Should either be perfectly symmetrical or definitely to one side.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/FPA_Critique_AZ_5DA08181.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Post Workshop critique for Andrzej FPA Critique AZ 5DA08181 thumb" border="0" alt="FPA Critique AZ 5DA08181 thumb Post Workshop critique for Andrzej critique workshop RPS nude photography Critiques " src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/FPA_Critique_AZ_5DA08181_thumb.jpg" width="320" height="452" /></a></p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Nice, though maybe slightly dark.&#160; I can’t give you a definitive recipe but I think you need to play more with different ways of getting to a monochrome, this looks a little soft and lacking in contrast.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/FPA_Critique_AZ_5DA08183.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Post Workshop critique for Andrzej FPA Critique AZ 5DA08183 thumb" border="0" alt="FPA Critique AZ 5DA08183 thumb Post Workshop critique for Andrzej critique workshop RPS nude photography Critiques " src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/FPA_Critique_AZ_5DA08183_thumb.jpg" width="452" height="256" /></a></p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Good composition, lovely curves – personally I like the hand, though others might object.</p>
<p>See comments above regards monochrome conversion.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/FPA_Critique_AZ_5DA08212.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Post Workshop critique for Andrzej FPA Critique AZ 5DA08212 thumb" border="0" alt="FPA Critique AZ 5DA08212 thumb Post Workshop critique for Andrzej critique workshop RPS nude photography Critiques " src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/FPA_Critique_AZ_5DA08212_thumb.jpg" width="452" height="306" /></a></p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Everything is “wrong” in standard judging terms about this image but I think it’s great.&#160;&#160; Crop, hands, eyes, nose, all are technically wrong.&#160; But the whole proximity the edge of the frame along with the expression gives a very strong feel.&#160;&#160; Looks just slightly dark.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/FPA_Critique_AZ_5DA08220.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Post Workshop critique for Andrzej FPA Critique AZ 5DA08220 thumb" border="0" alt="FPA Critique AZ 5DA08220 thumb Post Workshop critique for Andrzej critique workshop RPS nude photography Critiques " src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/FPA_Critique_AZ_5DA08220_thumb.jpg" width="320" height="452" /></a></p>
<p>This is such a tricky shot, getting just the right amount of face through the arms.&#160;&#160; Again its strong on first glance, but doesn’t stand up to a long look.&#160;&#160; The arm separation is awkward, the camera position leaves to a very odd shaped neck being visible and the hair is blocked up yet we have a very bright armpit.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>I think the fix would be a vertical light pointing downwards and careful framing and camera position through the arms.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/FPA_Critique_AZ_5DA08234.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Post Workshop critique for Andrzej FPA Critique AZ 5DA08234 thumb" border="0" alt="FPA Critique AZ 5DA08234 thumb Post Workshop critique for Andrzej critique workshop RPS nude photography Critiques " src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/FPA_Critique_AZ_5DA08234_thumb.jpg" width="308" height="452" /></a></p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Not sure what’s happened here, it looks oddly flat.&#160;&#160; Difficult to tell on the smaller images but I think the light was too low down.&#160;&#160; Shame because it’s good but no cigar.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/FPA_Critique_AZ_5DA08243.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Post Workshop critique for Andrzej FPA Critique AZ 5DA08243 thumb" border="0" alt="FPA Critique AZ 5DA08243 thumb Post Workshop critique for Andrzej critique workshop RPS nude photography Critiques " src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/FPA_Critique_AZ_5DA08243_thumb.jpg" width="240" height="452" /></a></p>
<p>I really like the treatment on this image and the unusual crop – it all works very well.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Lots of details that add:&#160; the rim light on her back, the detail in the hair, the combination of hand and foot, the look on the face, the treatment, the crop, the reflection on the floor.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/FPA_Critique_AZ_5DA08265.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Post Workshop critique for Andrzej FPA Critique AZ 5DA08265 thumb" border="0" alt="FPA Critique AZ 5DA08265 thumb Post Workshop critique for Andrzej critique workshop RPS nude photography Critiques " src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/FPA_Critique_AZ_5DA08265_thumb.jpg" width="452" height="320" /></a></p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Close, but compared to your other work this looks like a snap.&#160;&#160; On it’s own it would be perfectly fine, and one a client would buy.&#160;&#160; Good light on the sparkly trousers, nice expression.&#160;&#160; Again hard to tell but I think the problem is in the lighting position and that it is just not quite the “decisive moment”.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/FPA_Critique_AZ_5DA08373.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Post Workshop critique for Andrzej FPA Critique AZ 5DA08373 thumb" border="0" alt="FPA Critique AZ 5DA08373 thumb Post Workshop critique for Andrzej critique workshop RPS nude photography Critiques " src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/FPA_Critique_AZ_5DA08373_thumb.jpg" width="320" height="452" /></a></p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Can’t decide about this one, the relative warmth of the colours seems at odds with the rest of the image, see if cooling it down makes the image and the expression more in keeping.&#160; Might also go monochrome.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>There is a lot of flat, well lit flesh pointing to camera here, for the mood that comes over it would have been better shot into the shadow side.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>OVERALL:</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Very strong set.&#160;&#160; Can’t say better than that.</p>

There are two things that really bug me about this image, firstly the curve of the bench is cropped on the right &#8211; should crop the left two I think.  Secondly it looks like Cat&#8217;s only got one foot.  There is an image there, crop just below the bum and tight around Cat and really boost the contrast (or the shadows at least).

Nice, one of those lovely figure studies that works well in colour or black and white &#8211; though it&#8217;s pretty much monochrome anyway.  I&#8217;d like to just crop ...

<p> <a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/jeb02.jpg"><img style="display: inline; border: 0;" title="Post Workshop Critique for Jane jeb02 thumb" src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/jeb02_thumb.jpg" border="0" alt="jeb02 thumb Post Workshop Critique for Jane critique " width="358" height="602" /></a></p>
<p>Nice, one of those lovely figure studies that works well in colour or black and white &#8211; though it&#8217;s pretty much monochrome anyway.  I&#8217;d like to just crop a fraction off the top so there isn&#8217;t that gap between arm and neck at the top right.   You&#8217;ve got the angle of the body to the light just right.   The light/shadow across bust and bits, hips and tummy are perfect.</p>
<p> <a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/jeb03.jpg"><img style="display: inline; border: 0;" title="Post Workshop Critique for Jane jeb03 thumb" src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/jeb03_thumb.jpg" border="0" alt="jeb03 thumb Post Workshop Critique for Jane critique " width="402" height="526" /></a></p>
<p>Terrific framing, this has the &#8220;decisive crop&#8221; aspect to it.   Nothing else to say &#8211; this is another spot on.</p>
<p> <a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/jeb04.jpg"><img style="display: inline; border: 0;" title="Post Workshop Critique for Jane jeb04 thumb" src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/jeb04_thumb.jpg" border="0" alt="jeb04 thumb Post Workshop Critique for Jane critique " width="373" height="602" /></a></p>
<p>I can&#8217;t decide about these two clothes &#8211; I think I&#8217;m not convinced that the constrast to each other properly &#8211; in other words that at suitably opposing points on the colour wheel.   It&#8217;s a great image, but I think what bugs me is that the top half of Iveta looks quite dynamic and the bottom half looks quite static.  I think a crop just below the hip is much stronger.    Really like the shine on the gold cloth &#8211; wonder if there&#8217;s a tight in crop of just her leg?</p>
<p> <a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/jeb05.jpg"><img style="display: inline; border: 0;" title="Post Workshop Critique for Jane jeb05 thumb" src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/jeb05_thumb.jpg" border="0" alt="jeb05 thumb Post Workshop Critique for Jane critique " width="402" height="480" /></a></p>
<p>Crop across the head I like &#8211; though I know others won&#8217;t.   Love the whole &#8220;lean&#8221; to this, the hand is cool.   For me I&#8217;d want to wrap brush Iveta&#8217;s tummy slightly and there&#8217;s a highlight just right and below her elbow that bugs me.   I&#8217;d like so see some more contrast in this &#8211; duplicate the layer and set the blend mode to soft-light see what that does for you.</p>
<p> <a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/jeb06.jpg"><img style="display: inline; border: 0;" title="Post Workshop Critique for Jane jeb06 thumb" src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/jeb06_thumb.jpg" border="0" alt="jeb06 thumb Post Workshop Critique for Jane critique " width="402" height="529" /></a></p>
<p>Knobbly knees = crop above them!   It&#8217;s very light to the left and darker on the right &#8211; I feel it needs more lightness on the right to balance it out, but I do like the almost ghostly / ethereal quality on the left.</p>
<p> <a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/jeb07.jpg"><img style="display: inline; border: 0;" title="Post Workshop Critique for Jane jeb07 thumb" src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/jeb07_thumb.jpg" border="0" alt="jeb07 thumb Post Workshop Critique for Jane critique " width="402" height="226" /></a></p>
<p>Smashing !!   Non-standard crop shape, cracking pose (in fact how does she do that and not fall over!)   The top left just needs filling I think.   It&#8217;s a little hard to tell, but it might just be slightly over exposed on her front?</p>
<p> <a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/jeb08.jpg"><img style="display: inline; border: 0;" title="Post Workshop Critique for Jane jeb08 thumb" src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/jeb08_thumb.jpg" border="0" alt="jeb08 thumb Post Workshop Critique for Jane critique " width="402" height="253" /></a></p>
<p>This shot confirms what I was saying about arms hanging downwards &#8220;drain energy&#8221; &#8211; although the pose is quite strong it leaves a low energy image &#8211; nothing wrong with that &#8211; this is quite peaceful &#8211; especially after the previous image.</p>
<p> <a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/jeb09.jpg"><img style="display: inline; border: 0;" title="Post Workshop Critique for Jane jeb09 thumb" src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/jeb09_thumb.jpg" border="0" alt="jeb09 thumb Post Workshop Critique for Jane critique " width="402" height="212" /></a></p>
<p>Not sure about the top crop on this one &#8211; maybe just below the nose like the previous one might be stronger.  Curious striping on the cloth??  </p>
<p> <a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/jeb10.jpg"><img style="display: inline; border: 0;" title="Post Workshop Critique for Jane jeb10 thumb" src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/jeb10_thumb.jpg" border="0" alt="jeb10 thumb Post Workshop Critique for Jane critique " width="354" height="602" /></a></p>
<p>I like this &#8211; although in a way we&#8217;ve seen the image before the gels make it a really good twist.   I would paint out the top of Cat&#8217;s head that&#8217;s showing and I&#8217;d be tempted to add a little colour on both edges of Cat&#8217;s torso.</p>
<p> <a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/jeb11.jpg"><img style="display: inline; border: 0;" title="Post Workshop Critique for Jane jeb11 thumb" src="http://filmphotoacademy.files.wordpress.com/2009/10/jeb11_thumb.jpg" border="0" alt="jeb11 thumb Post Workshop Critique for Jane critique " width="346" height="602" /></a></p>
<p>To be picky here, you could have posed Cat&#8217;s hands slightly to the right so it revealed &#8220;the cat&#8221; on the wall.  I like the perspective &#8211; you don&#8217;t see too many bum shots &#8211; nice use of the wide angle.   I also like the arc of the splash on the wall running around across Cat&#8217;s bum.    Don&#8217;t know if that creates a tighter crop that works.</p>
<p> <a href="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/jeb12.jpg"><img style="display: inline; border: 0;" title="Post Workshop Critique for Jane jeb12 thumb" src="http://www.filmphotoacademy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/jeb12_thumb.jpg" border="0" alt="jeb12 thumb Post Workshop Critique for Jane critique " width="402" height="602" /></a></p>
<p>Done a nice job on colour correction but I&#8217;d like a little more detail in the shadows &#8211; it&#8217;s a bit blocked up.  Also not sure about the black space at the bottom &#8211; that could probably go.   </p>
<p>Good set overall, there&#8217;s a really nice crispness to these and although I&#8217;ve given quite a few crop comments,  I appreciate the conviction of your own cropping.</p>
