Posing two models for amazing shapes and dance like positions

THINKING:

Phil and Katherine are not trained dancers so firstly fair play to them for being able to pull this very difficult pose off.

Actually I was aiming to create a more structured and held pose - which they managed admirably, but when looking over the images I liked the joy and motion in this image.

SEEING:

Compositionally the image is an inverted triangle. Both their bodies from a downward pointing triangle and then the negative space between them echoes this.

In the versions of this shot with a held pose their limbs line up and provide very strong lines through the shot. But the fact that everything is not quite even and aligned here helps to add to the sense of movement in the image.

DOING:

The lighting is from a vertical softbox off to the left side. I have used this to reveal all the muscle tone, particularly in Mike who looks very well defined.

At the same time I wanted Katherine's face to be lit and was happy for Mike's face to fall to shadow. Generally, if in doubt the woman is more important.
