Robert - Post Workshop Image Critique

After every workshop I give the opportunity for attendees to send me a selection of images, so that they can be reviewed and advice given. These are Robert's selection:

Nice portrait, interesting and quite cheeky look on Miss Pixie's face. Crucially the frames of the glasses do not obscure the pupils of the eye.

Interesting idea, I can't fault the idea of montaging these images. However, I'm really unhappy about the zoom blur (or whatever the effect is). Don't see how this adds to the image. The thing about a treatment like this is that it might be the first time you've used it, but I've seen it done to death about 10 years ago. The suspicion is that it is disguising a problem in the image. With this image I think it would be interesting enough without the treatment. I do like the toning of this image.

I like this, it's an off-repeated format, but it does work well here. Not sure about the arm - this could be cloned out and maybe make a stronger image.

This image is very warm / red. It could do with a little tweaking in the colour balance. Interestingly it's really exaggerated Leah's skin texture, some skin smoothing would really help with this. I think the crop could be improved, firstly the eyes are slightly tilted, either straighten them out or really tilt them. The crop is also slightly off-centre. A really off-centre crop would be more interesting.

Happy and fun, great shot of the eyes. This should be cropped much tighter in though, a really tight view of the face, as it stands the leading arm really dominates the image.

Fascinating toning on this, very different - though maybe not to everyone's taste. What's curious is the legs, which look very long in the calfs, might want to exaggerate this further.

Lovely shot, absolutely perfect hi-key image. Smashing sparkle in the eye, the position of the hands makes a perfect frame, leading the eye around and inside the frame and a wonderful look on the face. Also like the soft vignette to the edges. I'd like to see the skin just a little smoother and the eyes look a little "baggy" which could be cleaned up.

As with my comments above I'm not sure what the treatment adds to this image. I suspect the original is strong enough not to need the effect.

Overall a nice set, aside from the treated images, each one has been captured well. A bit more concentration on the cropping would go a very long way.
