Critique for Allan

Allan attended one of our recent Art Nude workshops. After every workshop attendees may send me images for a follow-up critique. This is that review.

Very enigmatic nude pose, the lighting is gorgeous and warm. There are a couple of tweaks, 1) the tiny splash of light on the left hand waist, 2) the distracting hair in the top right could go altogether.

Clever control of a messy and distracting background by dropping it into mono. Also makes Kirsty stand out well in the image. Good pose and good crop.

Pose, capture and composition are terrific, love the expression on the face combined with the peculiar shapes. I'm not quite sure about the post processing, but the more I look at it the more it grows on me.

Technically this image is great, lighting splashes nicely across the body. What I don't like are both hands, especially the one on the head.

Nice textures well caught and kept in the post processing. Shifting the light source further to one side and/or with a smaller softbox (or none) would make this a stronger image.

Because of the texture of the cloth I feel that everything else needs to be smooth, including the wall's defects and the slight create just above the pubic bone.

Really confusing crop here. Either the hips should be in or out. I would crop this just above the waist, so there is no skin at the bottom. The lighting here does not add enough drama to the image for me (see note on previous).

Clever crop and I like the post-processing of soft glow and crisp face. I would take out the tattoo's because both are distracting.

Is this some type of pseudo HDR treatment? Don't like it :)

The pose is good, but the leading thigh looks very large.

Like the way the shadows fall (or have been added) on the background providing a focus on the subject.

Terrific, (see notes on light above) dynamic, intriguing and fascinating.

Could there be a little more texture brought out in the cloth?

Lovely traditional art nude shot. Rim lighting works perfectly, pose is really good.

Two things bug me: the fingers - especially the tiny bit on the right hand side. Secondly, this looks shot a little wide and it has exaggerated the size of the feet.

Brilliant image, love the way the light has been brought out on the face, The monochrome works really well and although some may complain about the messy background I like it.

Like the shapes, but the face - especially the bright spot on the nose spoils it.

Nice set, I like the way you have treated some of these images, you always need to be careful not to overdo the treatments though. Your control of the light both in shot and afterwards is very good.
