You can pick up scaffold poles cheap and do interesting things with them.

This sequence of images is shot around a scaffold pole hanging horizontally from a ceiling fitting. The fitting is very secure to allow the model to really hang from the pole.

Q&A: Is a photography degree worthwhile?

It is suprisingly easy to set up a reflecting pool like this one. It is four pieces of 2 x 4 nailed together and a large plastic sheet laid over them.
