Facial Analysis in Fine Art Portraiture

There’s a really good article (albeit a little old fashioned) on PhotoCamel that is well worth a read for a good introduction in to the art of Facial Analysis.  How to spot and correct problems.

Facial Analysis and Correction

My good friend Simon Young is a bit of a whizz on this front, and those interested in pursuing personal training on this can book Simon through me.

Personally, while I do try and correct for facial issues, I’m not prepared to let the “great expression” photo be junked just because of a facial issue – for me the life and soul of the person is more important than a wonky eye.   That said though, correct shooting, setting the environment, lighting and camera position to soothe and smooth those issues, then shooting the expression is the right way to go.
