Homage to Helmut Newton
Helmut Newton is probably the most well known, and most copied, photographer in the art nude genre. Famous for his images of powerful, Amazonian women.
I love strong women. I try to present all my female subjects as empowered, powerful, decisive women.
The pose is classic Newtonesque. Vertical, head held high, arms high on the waist, dominating and omnipotent.
The slatted jetty on which JammyLou is standing provides a receding platform directly to the figure. This could have been shot closer in to Lou, but the jetty forms a platform - a visual plinth on which Lou stands.
Then Lou's figure itself is contrasted against the dark trees behind her. The most interesting part of any image should always be the area of greatest contrast.
The camera height is not completely at ground level, a slight tilt of the camera downwards has worked to pull out the jetty. This slight tilt has also slightly lengthened Lou's figure.
At the time the sun was continually popping in and out of cloud cover and we had to wait until we a shaded sun for this image otherwise the shadows would have been too powerful.
