Critique for Colin

Colin attended one of our recent Art Nude workshops. After every workshop attendees may send me images for a follow-up critique. This is that review.

Too wide a zoom, coupled with a bad camera height has distorted this image.

Shoot lower, shoot further back

Would have been better if the hips had be turned further away from the camera, more to the side, that would have given better shape and better light effect ont he body.

Lovely use of figure and shadow. The touch between the two is perfect. I'm a little bothered about the way the shadow legs suddenly thin out on the floor. A crop maybe above the knee to a more landscape format would improve this no end.

Smashing. Slightly too tightly cropped and it's a missing a top to the white frame.

Normally I would say bring the hands within the frame of the white, but there has been enough spill over light to make this work.

It doesn't look straight in the frame, use the perspective correction tool to square it all up.

Not enough cloth. Crop it out all together and you've still got a great image. Lighting across the body is perfect, lovely rim on both sides.

At first glance I liked this, but then on a second look I realised the pose squashes the bust to an unpleasant shape. The softness is nice, but maybe too strong on the face.

Dark shots are always tricky not making them look muddy, which has what's happened here. Not sure if there has been some post processing to put some light in. Overall it could do with a little more contrast to give it some punch.

Photoshop the bracket on the bench.
