Boudoir High Key Part 3
I'm now using that window light as a rim light, letting it fall sideways across the body.
By letting the sitter use the wall they can give themselves some comfort, I will have them lean on the wall several ways, with their back to the wall, with their front and with their side.
In all cases I will typically look to get the hips or bum off the wall. I do this because it helps the poise even if I am shooting a headshot or half-length.
In this first shot notice the bra strap pulled off the shoulder - this makes a huge difference. It changes the story of an image from "nice" to "naughty"
You can crop in tighter with this shot and also get the gaze coming to camera. For the tighter shot I tend to stand on a short stool so the gaze is up to camera.
With the right subject you can bring them round for a full on, provocative shot. It's a very powerful look.
You might need to adjust the posing for different body shapes. For example a busty client might need both hands raised to help the bust line keep in shape.
I've now brought Suzanne into the window area. Now the window light becomes my main light and my previous main light becomes a fill light. I've adjusted my exposure accordingly.
I tell my clients to look out the window and imagine their partner is just arriving home.
Getting women to lean is the simplest but most effective posing tip I can give you.
